Thank you for your interest in participating in the Voices of Pagan Pacifism project!

We hope this website will become an archive of helpful resources, inspiring stories and challenging essays available to the Pagan pacifist community, as well as the larger community of Pagans, Witches, Druids, Heathens and others interested in pre-Christian and earth-centered spirituality. It’s important to know that we are not alone, and to showcase the work and lives of our fellow peace-makers and social activists!

We conceive of this project as providing a showcase and permanent archive for the many voices of Pagan peace-making in the modern world. For this reason, we gladly accept submissions that have already been published elsewhere, provided they are submitted by (or with prior permission from) the original author and are accompanied by appropriate references and credit to the original publication source (including a link, if available). We also welcome new and original work never published before, by aspiring and previously-published writers alike!

We are currently accepting submissions for work in three main categories:

In all submissions (excepting the interview application form), we are interested in writing with a clear vision and a unique voice, with a minimum of grammatical and spelling errors and suitably credible research sources (when appropriate).

Submissions should be sent either as an attached file (in one of the following formats: .txt, .rtf or .pdf) or in the body of the email itself, along with the name of the writer, a short bio, and any relevant links to online sources or previous places of publication. (If you submit a piece on behalf of someone else, please include their contact information so that we can confirm permission to use their work.)

Submissions can be mailed to: submissions [at] paganpacifism [dot] com Please indicate which category/subcategory you think is appropriate for your work in the subject line of your email. See below for details on each of the categories.

Articles & Essays

We are looking for articles, essays and reviews on Pagan Pacifism and the overlap of spirituality and political philosophy in the following subcategories:

  • Peace in Pagan History — Well-researched essays and articles exploring themes of pacifism and peace-making in ancient pagan traditions and cultures, as well as pieces on influential leaders, movements, events and thea/ologies in the history and development of modern (Neo)Paganism.
  • Peace on Earth: Pacifism & Ecology — Work that explores the lessons that nature and ecology can teach us about peace-making, as well as articles on the use of nonviolence and pacifistic philosophy in tackling issues of environmentalism and conservation.
  • Peace of the World Tribe: Pacifism, Activism & Social Justice — Essays and articles reporting on and discussing the relationship between personal and political peace-making, exploring examples in modern (Neo)Paganism of community actions and organized movements working for peace and justice on the local, national and global levels.
  • Peace Within: Personal Reflections & Experiences — Creative nonfiction and memoir-like pieces reflecting on the nature and challenges of peace-making in a (Neo)Pagan context, and the impact that pacifism has had on the shape and direction of one’s spiritual life.
  • Interfaith Peace: Pacifist Traditions in Other Religions — Pieces that reflect on the role of peace-making and pacifism as expressed in other religious traditions, such as Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, etc. These traditions can be approached on their own, or as an eclectic blending with a (Neo)Pagan path, so long as the work focuses on the nature of peace-making as a cross-cultural phenomenon with roots in many different peoples and places.
  • Sharing Peace: Book, Art & Media Reviews — Reviews of and responses to books, films, television, music, pop culture and other works of art and media outlets, with an eye to their relevance and helpfulness in understanding and living a Pagan Pacifist path.

Rituals & Practices

We are looking for useful advice and how-to articles on how Pagans can incorporate peace-making work into their everyday spiritual and mundane lives through practical exercises, rituals, prayers and meditations for both individuals and groups, as well as suggestions for political and social actions in the local community.

  • Spirit of Peace: Ritual, Meditation and Prayer for Individuals — Daily prayers, meditations and simple rituals to help individuals and solitary practitioners establish a foundation of peace-making as part of their regular spiritual practice.
  • Magic of Peace: Ritual and Community Practices for Groups — Suggestions for peace-centered group work and coordinated practices in a Pagan spiritual context, in particular those that explore themes of peace and justice in group magical workings, seasonal rituals, and rites of passage and initiation, as well as on-going exercises in fostering peaceful community engagement both among Pagans and between Pagans and non-Pagans. (Ritual scripts will be considered if accompanied by a thorough discussion of the tools, actions, symbols and invocation/meditative themes used in the rite.)
  • Secular Peacemaking: Political and Social Actions for Individuals and Communities — Articles and suggestions for Pagans interested in getting involved in local and/or national peace and justice movements on a scale that extends beyond the Pagan community, as well as advice for those interested in organizing peaceful actions or establishing or organizing social justice groups open to the general public.

Interviews, Biographies & Organizations

We are looking for people who would like to participate in an interview process to be featured as a “Pagan Pacifist of the Month.”

  • Interviews — Do you follow a Pagan path? Do you engage in the work of peace-making on a personal, community and/or political level? If so, we would love to hear from you! (You do not have to formally subscribe to the political philosophy of pacifism to qualify; we’re interested in featuring a wide variety of peace-making Pagans from all spiritual traditions and political perspectives!) Please see our Interview Application page and send us some information about yourself, and we’ll be in touch.
  • Biographies — We are also interested in articles about peace-making Pagans of the past (or old interviews with leaders in the community), focusing on the relationship between their spiritual tradition and their political philosophy.
  • Organizations & Communities — If you belong to a Pagan organization or community that is engaged in pacifism and peace-making locally, nationally or internationally, and would like it to be showcased on the Voices of Pagan Pacifism webpage, please send us a brief description of the group, its activities and mission statement, and relevant contact information.
